Among mammalian experimental animals, mice are small in size, convenient in feeding and management, easy to control, fast in production and reproduction, have the most profound research, have clear quality control standards, and have a large number of inbred lines, mutant lines and closed groups. In recent years, the breeding of heritage engineering mice has increased rapidly, so they have the largest amount and the most uses in various experimental studies.
1. Safety and toxicity tests often use mice for new safety experiments of food, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and chemical products, acute, subacute, chronic, toxicity tests, teratogenic, carcinogenic mutagenicity tests, lethal dose determination of half, etc.
2 Biological effect measurement and drug titer comparison widely used in serum, vaccines and other biological products identification, biological effect experiments and various drug titer determination.
3. Drug screening Screening tests mostly start from mice to screen whether various drugs have preventive effects on diseases. After obtaining the curative effect of each drug through screening, other animals are further confirmed.
4. Microbial Parasitology studies Mice are sensitive to a variety of pathogens, especially in virology studies. Suitable for the study of schistosomiasis, malaria, Trypanosoma, influenza encephalitis, rabies, polio, lymphatic choriomeningitis, mycoplasma, Pasteurella and salmonella.
5 Radiological studies The response of mice to radiation is comparable to that of humans, which can be used to study the radiation dose, radiation effect, etc.
6 Tumor leukemia research mice have high incidence of tumor, good histocompatibility, and easy growth of tumor transplantation, so it is widely used. Antitumor drugs can be screened for spontaneous tumor in mice. It can induce all kinds of tumors, make tumor models, and carry out tumor etiology and pathogenesis research. Some inbred mice belong to the high cancer line, some belong to the low cancer line, which is more convenient and beneficial for the study of tumor occurrence.
Mice have regular estrus cycle, ovulation, pregnancy has obvious indicators, easy to detect, cheap, commonly used for anti-fertility, anti-implantation, anti-early pregnancy, anti-ovulation experiments, very suitable for contraceptive research.
8 Research on antitussive drugs Mice also cough response, can take advantage of this feature to study antitussive drugs, become a must selection of experimental animals.
There are many strains of mice, some of which have spontaneous genetic diseases, such as murine melanosis, albinism, familial obesity, and hereditary anemia. Similar to human morbidity, it can be used as an animal model of human genetic diseases.
10 Immunological research on various immune deficiency mice, such as pure New Zealand black mice (NZB) with autoimmune hemolytic anemia, AKR/N mice with complement C5 defect, CBA/N mice without B cell immune deficiency, etc., are all good experimental animals for the study of immune mechanism and immune deficiency diseases.
